Overview
Multi-lingual learners or MLL students require specific course scheduling to support their English Language Development or ELD. In DPS, Scheduling for ELD is a two-step process; (1) scheduling students to their ELD classes and (2) entering the correct code into the Alt Row. Part two is a necessary compliance measure so that DPS can track your ELD enrollment status. APS only requires us to use the specified courses for ELD.
All MLL students who have not yet been redesignated or exited from services are required to be enrolled in an ELD course. Follow the steps and supports below to schedule students in ELD for High School.
If you do not have any of the necessary courses on your course list please send a DSST Help Desk request with the information for missing courses to helpdesk@scienceandtech.org
Follow the steps and supports below to schedule ELD for MLL students.
DPS- Scheduling ELD in Infinite Campus
Step One
Before scheduling any students to classes in IC you will first need to identify which ELD course the student should be in. This is based on a variety of different qualitative and quantitative data. You can learn about how to identify which ELD courses students should be in here.
Step Two
Now that you have identified which ELD course the student should be placed in you can schedule that in IC. There are two parts to this process: 1) Rostering them in the DSST Course and 2) Adding the DPS Course to the Alt Row.
You will see the DSST Course Names and Numbers for each ELD program placement in the chart below.
| ELD Program Placement | DSST Course Number and Name | DPS Alt Row Courses | Course Caps | ELP Score or ACCESS Score |

Step Three
The next step for ELD scheduling is entering the correct code into the Alt Row. This is a necessary compliance measure so that DPS can track your ELD enrollment status.
The chart below outlines the courses and their corresponding "Alt Row" courses.

To properly schedule these alt-row courses, you will need to create your section of the corresponding course as normal however the Schedule Selection Placement step is different. You will select "Alt1" as shown below.
After you have created the section and scheduled it to the Alt Row, you will need to roster your students. You can decide if you want to create one section and list all students OR match your sections as they are in the corresponding classes. The only advantage to scheduling multiple sections is if you want to identify the specific students in IC for ELD. Most schedulers use one section per grade level.
