Overview
You can assign assessments in Pear Assessment to an entire class or multiple classes. Follow the steps and supports below to assign an assessment in Pear Assessment. To look directly at the test settings options and information click here.
Step One
Once you have logged into Pear Assessment click the toolbar to the right and find the "Test" button
Step Two
You will now be in the Test Library. Here you can narrow your results with the filters and folders available to locate the test you want to assign. If you created the assessment you can quickly locate it by clicking the "Created by Me" filter.
Step Three
Once you have located the assessment you wish to assign you you can hover over the cover image and select "Assign".
Step Four
You will now see the Assessment Settings screen. Here you can select the classes to assign the test to as well as choose a variety of test settings.
Class/Group
- "Class/Group": Choose one or more classes or groups to receive the test. In the student field below, you can select individuals from these sections if not all students should receive the assignment. If you wish to assign an assessment to specific students you can find support here.
- "Open and Close Date": When Use Open and Close Date is selected, this restricts the test window to these dates. If you want to allow late submissions, choose the Use Open, Due, and Close Date option. Selecting this gives the option to set a “due” date within the test window and doesn’t restrict late submissions (e.g. from absent students). Note: the Close date can be adjusted if needed on the Live Class Board, Settings.
- "Open Policy" and "Close Policy": Open Date indicates when the test window begins. It is the earliest day and time that the students can access the test. You can set it to the day, hour, and minute. Choose the Automatic option to automatically lock down access on the close date. This eliminates the need for teachers to remember to close and is also useful for sending data to Insight reports as soon as all students have submitted. Choose Manually in Class when it is required for the teacher to control the close times, (e.g. a final exam that is assigned to multiple classes throughout the day).
- "Tags": Tags are keywords you can use to search for your tests in the Assignments or Insights sections. Entering a tag makes it easier to locate an assigned test or quickly access test data.
Test Behavior
- "Test Type": Designate what type of assignment you are delivering. You’ll be able to use these categories later to filter reports so make sure practice is set as practice.
- "Release Scores": Decide what students immediately get to see upon submitting an assessment.
- "Evaluation Method": Choose if students should be awarded partial credit for their answers or not. If partial credit is allowed, then choose whether the student should be penalized for incorrect answers or not (applicable only for multiple selection question widgets). For more information on the Evaluation Method, you can find support here.
- "Mark as done": When an assignment is marked “Done”, data flows to the reports. Automatically will mark it as done when all students are graded and the due date has passed, OR choose Manually and select the Mark as Done button when ready.
- "Show calculator": If students can use an on-screen calculator, select the type to make available on the test.
- "Timed Test": Timed test allows you to control how long students have to take the test. When the time limit is reached, students will be locked out of the assessment. Choose the time and whether students can pause and continue later or if the test should be taken in a single sitting.
Anti-Cheating
- "Shuffle Items": If on, then the order of questions will be different for each student.
- "Shuffle Answer Choice": If set to ON, answer choices for multiple-choice and multiple select questions will be randomly shuffled for students.
- "Require Password": Require your students to enter a password
- Dynamic Password: Students must enter a password to take the assessment. The password is auto-generated and revealed only when the assessment is opened. If you select this method, you also need to specify the time in minutes after which the password would automatically expire. Use this method for highly sensitive and secure assessments. If you select this method, the teacher or the proctor must open the assessment manually and announce the password in class when the students are ready to take the assessment.
- Static Password: The password is entered by you and does not change. Students must enter this password before they can take the assessment.
- "Complete Test in One Sitting": If ON, then students will not be allowed to exit the test without submitting. In case they close the app they will be paused and the instructor will need to manually resume.
- "Restrict Navigation out of Test": If ON, students must take the test in full-screen mode to prevent opening another browser window. An Alert will appear if the student has navigated away for more than 5 seconds. If the designated number of alerts is exceeded, the student’s assignment will be paused and the instructor will need to manually reset.
- "Restrict Question Navigation": If ON, students must take the test in full screen mode to prevent opening another browser window. Alert will appear if student has navigated away for more than 5 seconds. If the designated number of alerts are exceeded, the student’s assignment will be paused and the instructor will need to manually reset. Please Note: this is not compatible with iPads.
- "Require Safe Exam Browser": Ensure secure testing environment by using Safe Exam Browser to lockdown the student's device. You can also set a quit password.
Auto Redirect Settings
- "Enable Auto Redirect": When selected, allows students to automatically retake a test when they scored below a set threshold. Enables students to practice and improve learning through multiple self-directed attempts.
- "Maximum Attempts Allowed": Select the number of times a student can attempt the test. Note, this can be overridden at a later time in the settings if necessary.
- "Check Answer Tries/Question Attempt": Allow students to check their answers before moving on to the next question
- "Question Delivery": Choose which questions students should see on a redirected test
- "Show Previous Attempt": Choose how much information students will see on a redirected test.
