Overview
Practice CMAS assessments can be found in Edualstic and are available to assign to students. Teachers can use these assignments on their own or schools may choose to have practice CMAS days to prepare students. Currently (for the 2022-2023 school year) there are MS ELA and MS Math tests available.
Follow the steps and supports below to assign these assessments to classes in Edulastic.
Assigning the Assessment
Step One
In the table below click the link of the grade level and content area assessment you wish to assign. This will automatically open the assessment in a new tab. Please note that you may be prompted to log into Edulastic first.
| Middle School CMAS Practice Tests | |
| ELA | Math |
| Grade 6 | Grade 6 |
| Grade 7 | Grade 7 |
| Grade 8 | Grade 8 |
Step Two
Once you have logged into Edulsatic you should see the assessment you selected as shown below.
You will now need to assign the assessment to your classes. In the upper right-hand corner select the blue "Assign" button
Step Three
Your screen will now show the test "Assignment Settings" page.
- You will need to select your classes from the "Class/Group" options. Select all classes that need to take this assessment.
- Next, you will need to select the "Open Policy" and the "Close Policy". We recommend selecting "Open Manually in Class" and "Close Manually in Class".
Please note that the remaining assignment settings have already been set to mirror CMAS. You will not be able to make changes, as shown below. When you are finished click "Assign" in the upper right-hand corner.
Step Four
Once you've assigned the assessment you will receive a "Success" message. If you wish to verify your assessment assignment select the "Assignments" option from the expandable menu on the left-hand side. You should see your assessment assignment on the page, as shown below.
Opening and Closing the Assessment
Step One
When you are ready for students to take the assessment you will need "open" the assessment.
Please note this is ONLY if you selected "Open Manually in Class" in the Assignment Settings. If you selected "Automatically on Start Date" you do not need to do this. The assessment will be open for students on the date and time you set.
Click on your "Assignments" from the expandable menu on the left-hand side. Then select the desktop icon on the assessment assignment to open the live class board.
Step Two
You will now see the "Live Class Board" for the class you selected.
This is where you can manage the test for a particular class. Here you can open/close assessments, unassign specific students, mark students absent, and more.
When you are ready for students to have access and take the assessment click "Open" in the top right-hand corner
Students will now be able to take the assessment.
Step Three
At this point, we recommend marking students who are absent for test security. Select the small check box next to the students who are absent. Then select "More" and "Mark as Absent".
When these students return and you are ready for them to take the assessment you will need to "redirect" them. Click here for step-by-step instructions on how to do so.
Step Four
If for any reason you need to pause testing you can select the "pause" button for the class. Typically this would be if the class period is over and you will need to continue testing another time.
Step Five
When students are finished or the testing period is over you will need to "Close" the assessment. Select "Close" in the upper right-hand corner. You will be asked to type in a box for verification you are closing the assessment. When the assessment is "closed" no students can access or take the assessment.
Unassigning the Assessment
If you accidentally assign an assessment to the wrong class or you find you've assigned the wrong assessment to the wrong class you will need to "Unassign" the assessment.
Step One
Go to the "Live Class Board" for the assignment you need to "unassign". At the top right-hand corner select the three dots and click "Unassign ALL students". You will be asked for two verifications in order to ensure you do indeed wish to unassign and that you know the implications of doing so. Once you are finished you will be redirected to the "Assignments" screen with a message of successful "un-assignment".
