Overview
Pear Assessment allows users to decide how they want and when they want their students to access an assessment.
| Open | If a test is "open" students can see the assessment and take the assessment (depending upon password settings). |
| Pause | The teacher can manually "pause" student tests. When tests are paused students cannot access the assessment. This is often used if you do not finish testing and must continue on another day. |
| Close | If a test is "closed" students cannot take the assessment. |
In the assessment test settings, you can decide if you would like your assessment to be a "manual open and close" or "auto open and auto close". Most commonly you will have to open or close assessments during Interim Assessments or Finals. Otherwise, you will be using this for your class assessments throughout the year.
Follow the steps and supports below to learn how to open, close, or pause an assessment.
- Manual Open and Close - This is what you need for Trimester IAs/Finals
- Auto Open and Close
Manual Open and Close
When you are creating the assignment of an assessment you will have a variety of "Assignment Settings". Two of which are "Open Policy" and "Close Policy". If you want to Manually Open and Close the assessments be sure to select "Manually Open in Class" and "Manually Close in Class".
Now let's walk through how to manually open and manually close your assessment
Step One
Navigate to the "Live Class Board" of the assignment you wish to open. You will see the status of the assessment in the top left-hand corner under the assessment name. (Click here if you need more information about the status of assessments).
Step Two
As you can see in the image below the assessment says "Not Opened" and displays the Close Settings that have been set. In the right-hand corner of the screen, you will see a button that says "Open". Click this to "Open" your assessment for students
Step Three
Once you have opened the assessment the status under the assessment name will say "IN PROGRESS" and display the Close Settings. As you can see in the image below when the assessment is open you have the option to "Pause" or "Close". If you need to pause testing select "Pause". If you want to close the assessment, meaning that students will not be able to take it anymore, select "Close".
Auto Open and Close
When you are creating the assignment of an assessment you will have a variety of "Assignment Settings". Two of which are "Open Policy" and "Close Policy". If you want to automatically open and close the assessments be sure to select "Automatically on Start Date" and "Automatically on Close Date". You will also need to set the "Open Date" and "Close Date" as shown below.
Now that you have selected the "Open Date" and "Close Date" your assignment will automatically open and close based on your selections.
Once your assessment is open you can also manually use the "Pause" feature as well.
