Overview
Edulastic has so many options when it comes to creating assessments. Assessments can be set up as homework, a quiz, a practice set, common assessments for grade level teams, and more! This video below is a quick start guide for those who prefer this type of support
Creating Assessments
Step One
When you have logged into Edulastic expand the menu on the left and select "Test" to take you to the Test Libary. Then in the top right-hand corner select "New Test".
Step Two
You will now see there are three options for creating assessments in Edulastic 1) Create from Scratch 2) Create a test in Edulastic from a PDF using SnapQuiz and 3) Importing items to a test. For this guide, we are going to be creating our assessment from scratch. Select "Create Test".

Step Three
You will now see the Test Description page. Here you can add the details of your test including the title, description, subject, and more! You are required to enter a test name, a grade, and a subject before moving on.

Authoring Items/Questions
Step Four
You have two options when it comes to authoring items or questions 1) Adding items from the "Item Bank" or 2) Creating your own items
- Edulastic has a massive item bank of questions that are tied to standards, grade level, etc. Click "Add Items" at the top of your screen. You can use the filter menu on the left to narrow your search for questions. If you are having trouble select "CLEAR ALL" to help widen your scope or remove all filters. When you find the question you want to add select the "Add" button. You can also preview the question by selecting the button with an eye.

- Edulastic also offers the option to create your own items or questions. In the "Add Items" tab select "Create New Item". You will now see all of the question categories and question types. There are ten question categories and over fifty question types to choose from. In this guide, we are going to use a basic multiple choice question. Once you have selected your question type you will need to type the question, add answer choices, select the correct answer, and set the point value for the question.

Tagging Standards and Skills
Step Five
If you created an item or a question on your own you will need to tag standards. Tagging standards for a question allows you to break down student data and examine growth on a particular standard, assess areas for reteaching, and so much more.
In order to tag a standard on a question, you must select the "Meta Data" tab. You will now see the menu for adding skills and standards to your item. If you do not have any standard sets you will need to add them to your profile. You can find support for that here in this Help Center Article.
On the left, you can use the drop-down to select the standard of skill set you would like. Then on the right, your standard list will populate to select. Below you can add other information about DOK Level and Boom's Taxonomy if you wish. When you are finished click "Save"

Repeat these steps of adding questions and tagging standards until you're finished!
Assessment Settings and Options
Step Six
The final step when creating an assessment is to choose the test settings. Click the "Settings" tab at the top of your screen.
You will now see there are four categories of test settings 1) Test Behavior 2) Student Tools 3) Anti-Cheating and 4) Miscellaneous. All of these settings are outlined below
Test Behavior
- Test Type: Designate what type of assignment you are delivering. If you are using the assessment across grade level teams select "Common Assessment" otherwise you can choose from the other options presented.
- Allow teachers to Redirect: When "allow teachers to redirect" is set to "ON", teachers are allowed to redirect a common test for their class. Set to "OFF" to prevent teachers from using the redirect test feature. For more information on redirecting a test go to this Help Center article.
- Freeze Settings: This prevents other teachers from changing the test settings you have selected.
- Release Scores: Decide what students immediately get to see upon submitting an assessment.
- Evaluation Method: Choose if students should be awarded partial credit for their answers or not. If partial credit is allowed, then choose whether the student should be penalized for incorrect answers or not (applicable only for multiple selection questions and multi-part questions with multiple selection widgets). For more information on evaluation methods go to this Help Center article
- Mark as Done: When an assignment is marked “Done”, data flows to the reports. Automatically will mark it as done when all students are graded and the due date has passed, OR choose Manually and select the Mark as Done button when ready.
- Time Test: Timed test allows you to control how long students have to take the test. When the time limit is reached, students will be locked out of the assessment. Choose the time and whether students can pause and continue later or if the test should be taken in a single sitting.
- Maximum Attempts Allowed: Select the number of times a student can attempt the test. Note, that this can be overridden at a later time in the settings if necessary.
- Check Answer Tries Per Questions: Allow students to check their answers before moving on to the next question. Enter the number of attempts allowed per question.
Student Tools
- Show calculator: If students can use an on-screen calculator, select the type to make available on the test.
- Show Rubric to Students: Choose if the students should be able to view the grading rubric while attempting any question which has a grading rubric associated. This setting will only be enabled if any of the questions in the test has a rubric attached to it.
- Show Hints to Students: Students will be able to see the hint associated with an item while attempting the assignment. You can also set the penalty for using the hint.
- Reference Material: Upload Reference materials like formula sheets, the periodic table, constant value sheets, etc to help students in solving the questions.
- Accessibility- Magnifier: This tool provides visual assistance. When enabled, students can move the magnifier around the page to enlarge areas of their screen.
- Accessibility- Scratchpad: When enabled, a student can open ScratchPad to show their work. The tool contains options for text, drawing, shapes, rulers, and more.
- Accessibility- Show Skip Alert: When enabled, a student can not skip a question without confirmation.
- Accessibility- Keypad: Select the keypad to apply the current selection to all questions in the test
Anti-Cheating
- Shuffle Items: If ON, then the order of questions will be different for each student.
- Shuffle Answer Choice: If set to ON, answer choices for multiple choice and multiple select questions will be randomly shuffled for students.
- Test Password: Require your students to type a password when opening the assessment.
- Complete Test in One Sitting: If ON, then students will not be allowed to exit the test without submitting. In case they close the app they will be paused and the instructor will need to manually resume.
- Restrict Navigation out of Test: If ON, then students must take the test in full-screen mode to prevent opening another browser window. An Alert will appear if the student has navigated away for more than 5 seconds. If the designated number of alerts is exceeded, the student’s assignment will be paused and the instructor will need to manually reset it. **Always use this setting instead of the Safe Exam Browser**
- Restrict Question Navigation: If ON, then students will be restricted from navigating back to the previous question. Recommended to use along with Shuffle Questions for preventing cheating among students.
- Require Safe Exam Browser: Please do not use this setting. Safe Exam Browser updates can cause major problems when testing. We recommend using the "restrict navigation" tool instead.
Miscellaneous
- Answer on Paper: Use this option if you are administering this assessment on paper. If you use this option, you will have to manually grade student responses after the assessment is closed.
-
Choose Test Interface: Teachers can change the look and feel of the assessments to more closely align with formats similar to state and nationally administered assessments. If you don’t see your state, select the generic option, Edulastic Test.
